UPGRADE YOUR WEEKEND BEAUTY LOOK!

1. Up Your Lash Game
Repeat after us: fake eyelashes are my friend. If you’ve never been comfortable rocking the faux lash believe us when we say it’s much easier than it looks, and the added length and volume make a huge difference. Lush lashes look fabulous with any beauty look, from subtle to full-on glamorous, and they have this uncanny ability to make us feel instantly sexy and confident.

2. Swap Your Liner
We love experimenting with different colors in our time off, and the easiest way to incorporate a new hue into your eye makeup is colored eyeliner. From subtle navy to eye-catching glitter to a deep green cat eye liner, there are plenty of options to cater to any adventure level. If you’re going for a bold color, remember to keep the rest of your look subtle so you don’t look overly-done.

 3. Go Outside Your Lipstick Comfort Zone

We’re not ashamed to admit that we’ve been labeled “Lipstick Junkies” in the past, so trying a new lip color on the weekends is naturally a must. We wouldn’t even judge you if you planned your whole outfit around a lipstick… we’ve done it (obviously). This fall our lipstick-loving hearts are overwhelmed with colors to obsess over—burgundy, plum and scorching red to name a few. Pair your bold lip with strong brows and neutral eye makeup for a chic, modern look.

HOW TO WEAR BOLD LIPSTICK AND DRAMATIC EYES TOGETHER !

We’ve always been told to keep our eye makeup simple when we’re wearing a bold lip and vice versa, but rules are made to be broken, and there’s something brave and dramatic about pulling off a bright lip and a dramatic eye together. The good news is that it’s doable, with a catch thrown in here and there. Feeling courageous? Go ahead and give it a try, but be sure not to forget these guidelines.

Know your colors.
No matter how you wear it, orange eyeshadow is never going to work with red lipstick. A dramatic grey smoky eye, on the other hand, can pair perfectly well with any type of lip. Think of it this way: If you wouldn’t incorporate the two colors into one outfit, they probably shouldn’t be worn together on your face.

Don’t go overboard.
Whether it’s black or on the rainbow spectrum, statement eye makeup is best kept close to the lash line when worn with an equally bold lip color. A black cat eye looks great with any lip look because it’s simple, but a purple-toned smoky eye? Not so much. When incorporating color, you’re better off keeping shapes simple—a thin flick of colorful liner rather than an elaborate blended shadow look.
Precision is key.
Sometimes you can get away with applying lipstick straight out of the tube, but when you’re wearing an all-over dramatic look, a lip brush is key. Use a tiny brush to blend concealer around the lip line so the line is clean and sharp and to reduce smudging. Same goes for cleaning up around the eye—a stray glitter particle or tiny smudge could take the look from “done” to sloppy looking.

Keep the rest simple.
Blush, bronzer, highlighter, and in some cases, even lashes should be kept minimal. A light-coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer and concealer where necessary is all you need to carry the look—with a strong eye and lip, the rest of the face should look fresh and “natural.”

DON'T SUCK YOUR LIPS!!! (A MUST READ)

Tips for dark lips:

1. Say ‘NO’ to smoking:
Every beauty tip for lips says  that nicotine causes darkening of the lips and lip discoloration. Otherwise also smoking is known to cause cancer and other diseases.

2. Drink less Coffee:
Excess consumption of tea and coffee can turn lips black in addition to staining your teeth. So, limit your caffeine intake, in order to avoid your lips from acquiring a darker hue.

3. Minimize Sun exposure:
Exposure to the sun also causes lip darkening as there is an increased amount of melanin pigment in the lips. Ensure that you use lip products with SPF/UV protectors, if you are going to spend time outside.1

4. Check your Lipsticks:
Prolonged and excessive use of lipsticks and lip cosmetics, especially lower-quality ones can also cause lip pigmentation.
Use lipsticks sparingly (apply only when you need them the most) and always buy lip products from reputed brands.
Ensure that you check for the expiry date and not use expired lipsticks or lip products.
Look for one or more of these ingredients in your lipsticks: Shea butter, clarified butter, vitamin E and jojoba oil. These moisturize your lips and prevent them from drying out.
Always remove your lip makeup using a good lip makeup remover or olive/almond/coconut oil.

5. Scrub the Use a natural lip scrub:
Aleast once every week to remove dead cells and dry skinfrom your lips, and improve blood circulation. You can mix 5-6 drops of olive oil and 1 tsp sugar and use this for exfoliating your lips. Once you rinse off, apply healing lip butter or your favorite lip moisturizer.

6. Exfoliation:
Use some Vaseline on a baby toothbrush to gently exfoliate your lips. This can be done daily.

7. Hydrated at all time:
Keep your lips moisturized and hydrated at all times.
For retaining the natural color of lips, it is essential to maintain hydration levels by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Also, add high water-content fruits to your diet such as cucumber, watermelon, orange, grapefruit and lemon.
Lips are more delicate than the skin on any other part of our body. Hence, they need to be kept moist to avoid developing dryness and cracks, especially when they could possibly increase the chances of darkening the lips.
Use lip balms containing beeswax or cocoa butter as these seal in the moisture of your lips.

8. Don’t suck your lips:
Dermatologists advise us not to suck or lick the lips, so as to keep them wet. If not taken care, this will further dry them out, leading to darkening of the lips. Even the habit of biting lips should be avoided as there is the risk of damaging them.

9. Maintain healthy diet:
Vitamin deficiency can also lead to lip discoloration. Hence, maintain a healthy diet and eat lots of fruits and green vegetables. Vitamin C intake is also essential for getting rid of lip pigmentation; hence eat foods rich in this vitamin.

10. Avoid Chlorinated water:
Chlorinated water could also be responsible for pigmented lips.

11. Genetic:
Lip pigmentation can also be genetic. So, in case, you have black or dark lips right from birth, there is not really much to be done except cosmetic surgery perhaps.

Some Natural Tips to treat Dark or Black Lips:

1. Apply almond oil on your lips before bedtime as this helps to lighten lips, thus reducing discoloration.

2. You can also mix lemon/lime juice with almond oil and apply for the same purpose.

3. Daily application of cucumber juice would also help lighten dark lips.

4. Another tried and tested remedy is regularly applying a mixture of lime juice, glycerin and honey and leaving it overnight.

TIPS FOR YOUNGER LOOKING EYES!

Why your eyes need extra love
Your eyes are the windows to, well, your age. In fact, studies have shown that when strangers are asked to judge how old a person is, the eye area is one of the biggest influences. To help your eyes look brighter and more youthful (and like you've actually gotten enough sleep for once), follow these makeup tips, product suggestions, and at-home beauty remedies.

Banish dark circles
After 40, skin loses elasticity and thins, which can make you look tired and allow blood vessels to show through, heightening discoloration. Concealer lightens dark circles, gives lids the appearance of a lift, and brightens your face. Here are three steps to use this eye makeup to cover correctly.

Step 1 Pick a yellow-based formula that's at least two shades lighter than your skin tone.

Step 2 Using a small-headed concealer brush, apply a dab along the lower lashes to the innermost corner of eyes and the hollows of the nose. You can also use your ring finger, which has a naturally light touch and added warmth to tap and gently blend.

Step 3 A dusting of a sheer, loose, yellow-toned powder locks the concealer in place for the day.

Get "wow" lashes
Before applying mascara, when eyelashes are clean and dry (wet ones post-shower won't hold a curl), position a lash curler at the root of the lashes and give three firm, gentle pumps (holding it steady doesn't create a natural-looking, fluid curl). Release and repeat. For even better curl, heat your curler with your blow-dryer for 15 seconds first. The warmth holds the bend better,

Still haven't found a favorite mascara? This guide will help you find the best mascara for your lashes.

Fill in your eyebrows
"When brows are thin and light, they make your features disappear, adding years to even the youngest looking face," says Damone Roberts, a celebrity eyebrow artist. If yours are growing sparser (or have just had too much tweezing), use these steps to get back a full, youthful arch.

Step 1 Start by gently pulling your skin taut with one hand to create a smooth surface.

Step 2 With a stiff, angled brow brush , dust on brow powder in the same direction your hairs grow, using light, feathery strokes. Concentrate on sparse areas.

Step 3 When you're finished, brush the hairs up and out with a spoolie (it's like a clean mascara wand); this blends and softens the powder so it looks more natural and removes any excess powder.

LOLA OMOTAYO OKOYE COVERS OUR 1ST EVER BMPRO COVERS

Lola Omotayo Okoye is the Cover girl for our debut edition of BMPRO Covers.
With so many photos in our archives we came up with this-
It focuses on makeup and how we've created the look of our cover girl.
Our creative director, Yomi Black says "" We will work with photographers who capture the essence of beauty."""
Having worked with Henry of BigH studios, he was our first choice for this project.
Based in Abuja, working with him is such a fantastic experience.
A good listener, he interpretes his Artists brief and with suggestions of how it can be better.
Lola, a true lady, always a great sport, beautiful inside and outside.
Her Cancer Care project was one of the many things we discussed as we did makeup one sunny afternoon at BMpro Studios.
As she sat in my chair with her eyes closed as I applied her liquid eyeliner I couldn't help but wonder at her very kind heart.
All around us Cancer is so real! Deciding to do her bit for victims, I couldn't help but applaud her.
I'm sure as I hugged her Thank you for allowing me paint her face, she must have wondered why the hug was so tight!

INSTANT FACE LIFT IDEAS AND TRICKS!!!

Instant Face Lift
This makeup move will give you a subtle change that brightens your face. Take a concealer pencil and draw three horizontal lines — like cat whiskers — near the nose spanning out across the cheek. Use a sponge or clean brush to blend each line in an upward direction for an instant lift and ultra brightening effect.

To boost the effect, using a concealer pencil in the manner described above, then directly above each whisker, draw another whisker line using a highlighter. “When the concealer and highlighter are blended into the skin, it will not only lift and highlight, but will make the skin look airbrushed.”

Tone It Down
“If you have applied eye shadow that is a little too intense, don’t remove, just dip a shadow blender brush in bronzing powder, and sweep across the entire lid.The bronzing powder will work like a neutral tint, so it will diffuse and soften the color without changing it too radically.”

For Lush Lashes
To get a better curl, Celebrity Makeup Artist and President/Founder of Mally Beauty, Mally Roncal uses the three-pump system with her lash curler. She starts with a squeeze at the base of the lashes, then a squeeze in the middle and ends with a squeeze at the tips of the lashes.

Once you’ve curled your lashes, Strand says to sprinkle a small amount of loose powder onto them, and then apply your mascara. Apply a second coat by zig-zagging the wand through the lashes to fan them out. You will notice that the powder helps to maximize the look of each lash.

For Fuller Lips
Roncal suggests connecting the two points of your Cupid’s bow (the top of your upper lip) with a nude lip pencil, before going over the area with a light gloss.

        Concealer.
Choose a creamy formula that can hide under-eye circles and cover blemishes.

        Foundation.
You don’t need to slather it all over your face—just in places where you see uneven skin tone or discoloration. If you don’t need as much coverage as foundation provides, consider a tinted moisturizer instead.

        Blush.
Look for a warm tone to add a pop of color to the apples of your cheeks.

       Translucent powder.
A quick, light dusting of powder sets makeup and controls shine.

        Mascara.
There’s no better way to define your eyes than by enhancing your lashes. Stick with basic black (or dark brown if you have light hair and lashes).

       Neutral eye shadow.
A neutral beige or taupe is an instant brightener when swiped all over the lid.

         Defining eye shadow.
Choose a medium, neutral shade like a warm brown or charcoal gray. Brush it in the crease of the eye, under the brow bone, to add depth.

        Eye liner.
You can use your darker shade of eye shadow as a liner along the lashes—or use a dark brown or black pencil to create a thin line that will define and enhance your eyes.

          Lipstick.
How about some color? Lipstick (or gloss, if you want a more casual look) is the perfect antidote to the blahs.

         Fluffy powder brush.
Have one big, rounded brush to dust on powder once you’ve finished your makeup.

          Blush brush.
This brush is a bit smaller than your powder brush and is the right size for dabbing the cheeks and blending along the cheekbones.

         Eye shadow brush.
An all-over brush that gets your lid covered in one swipe.
